About this Article

Clarence William Page wrote "Stupid Statistics" as an "off the cuff" response to a Usenet posting that sought to characterize African Americans as constituting an inferior race of people.

Stupid Statistics

By Clarence William Page

A Black Man Responds to Racist Statistics

It takes a superior intellect to survive three hundred and ninety-one (391) years of the worst type of slavery the world has ever known, be dehumanized, be lynched on regular basis, have families torn apart, wives and daughters taken, abused, raped, given to others and sometimes killed and still be able to rise up and bless the God of the slavemaster.

It takes a superior intellect to be denied the vote while serving in the military and giving all for the country in which the vote is denied and still rise up and become Secretary of State and eventually, God be willing, President of the UnGodly-acting nation.

It takes a superior intellect to overcome being denied most significant positions in most of the major corporations of the slavery-embedded nation and still keep enough faith to struggle through high school, college, graduate school and still be denied in many ways and yet spread one's wings of faith and prayer and declare with the despised multitude, "We Shall Overcome!"

It takes a superior intellect to overcome the reality that no matter what you accomplish in the country that lynched your forefathers you are still thought of as being an inferior intellect AS A WHOLE RACE!

It takes a superior intellect to tolerate this idiocy.

It takes a superior intellect to survive this idiocy.

It takes more than intellect to forgive this idiocy.

Sincerely,

Black, Intelligent, and Unimpressed by your stupid "statistics".
